What prescription is considered "severe myopia"?

I am a -7.00 in my right eye and -7.50 in my left. Is this considered severe and should I be worried about retinal detachment? I squeeze my eyes shut a lot when I am at work cause I stare at a computer screen a lot and I feel betetr when I do it. could this cause retinal detachment as well?
