I am thinking about buying a 2000 Grand Am Gt for 3500.00 4 my daugter by private owner. Is this a good car?

This car has 120,000 miles, 2 door coupe, leather interior, sunroof. It's white and the body & paint is great. The car runs good and the kbb value is 3750.00. I made an offer of 3350.00. My mechanic said these cars have bad engines. I really like this car for my daughter. Can anyone give me advice if I should buy or not?
