How do i style my hair/bangs?

I have always had very long hair but i recently got a completely different hair cut for going away to college. its about shoulder length and i have straight across bangs (my hair used to be halfway down my back). i have mousse and i have this bed head manipulator stuff but i CANNOT figure out how the guy first styled my hair when he first cut it. i'm so upset because i'm going to school and idk how to do my own hair!!! plese help me!!!!
